Owner Gina Ranieri grew up in Overbrook Park and has lived in Haverford Township for the past 22 years, raising her three children.  She’s had numerous jobs over the years, from working with troubled teens in Philly to working on a farm. Gina, her husband, and a partner also launched a building and home renovation company called Ranieri and Kerns which Gina has managed for over twenty years. Now she moves on to the next chapter in her work life, motivated by her desire to be immersed in her community. For Gina, Plant Roots is a way of combining her business background, her passion for plants, and serving her beloved Township.

Gina’s love of plants started as a child when her mother (a Haverford Township elementary school teacher for 25 years) taught her the basics of container gardening.  Ten years ago, she and her husband Greg bought a home with a one-acre property, and they have worked together to transform it into a beautiful yard and small-scale farm, with a large vegetable garden, a cutting garden for fresh flowers, and nearly 20 chickens!

Gina has also been involved with several greening projects in the Township, including gardens at Chestnutwold School, Coopertown School, planters at Haverford Middle School, and the Triangle Garden and fountain in Oakmont.  She joined the HPED board and has enjoyed working on our planters and gardens, as well.

As a member of HPED, Gina was able to see the potential in the great business community of Havertown. She is excited to be directly involved with the transformation and growth of the town by opening up Plant Roots.  Her love of Haverford Township is driven by its unique neighborhood feel and she wants to encourage young families and new businesses to invest there.

“I want Plant Roots to feel like a community place,” shares Gina, “where people feel comfortable to stop in to say hello, browse the store, buy their first plant or add to their growing collection.” Gina also points out that plants can add so much to a home, and she is looking forward to sharing that with her customers.
